In the community

From planting trees to preserving history, HONNA’s programs are where neighborhood pride becomes neighborhood action in the Historic Old Northeast. Every initiative is volunteer-driven and community-focused, spanning five areas that matter most to Old Northeast residents: the environment, history, families, wellness, and the character of the neighborhood we share. Whether you have an afternoon or a year to give, there’s a place for you here.

Protecting our valuable tree canopy

Branching Out: The Old Northeast Tree Canopy Initiative

The Old Northeast’s tree canopy is one of its most defining features and one of its most vulnerable. HONNA’s street tree program plants and maintains dozens of trees each year, working alongside the City of St. Petersburg to address aging trees, fill gaps in coverage, and ensure the neighborhood stays shaded and green for generations to come. Residents are welcome to join our tree mapping program and HONNA members can apply for free trees on their right-of-way.

Preserving what makes us us

The Old Northeast Preservation Initiative

Designated a National Historic Landmark in 2003, the Old Northeast has a built environment worth protecting. HONNA’s Preservation and Planning Committee advocates for responsible development, supports homeowners navigating historic designation requirements, and works with the City to maintain the architectural integrity that defines our streets.

Built for families

Events and programs for all ages

The Old Northeast is a neighborhood where kids grow up with room to roam and a community that looks out for them. HONNA organizes family-friendly programming throughout the year, events, activities, and initiatives that make this a great place to raise a family and build lasting connections with neighbors of all ages.
