Meet the Neighbors: A Q&A with Longtime Resident and Garden Club Founder

For this issue, we sat down with a longtime Old Northeast resident and founder of the neighborhood’s Garden Club to talk about four decades of gardening along the bayou, the oak trees that have outlived several owners, and what keeps her digging in the dirt every weekend.

“This neighborhood gardens together,” she told us. “You learn as much from your neighbor’s yard as you do from any book.”

Hurricane Season Prep: What Every Old Northeast Homeowner Should Know

With hurricane season approaching, HONNA is sharing a few reminders for waterfront homeowners: trim dead limbs before storm season, check that drainage swales are clear, and know your evacuation zone.

HONNA’s street tree program can also help identify trees that may need professional attention before the season’s first named storm.

Bike Rack Installation Complete Along Beach Drive

New bike racks are now installed along Beach Drive, the result of a year-long push by HONNA’s Wellness Committee to make the neighborhood more walkable and bikeable for residents of all ages.

This is the first phase of a broader plan that will bring additional racks to Coffeepot Bayou Park and Granada Terrace later this year.
